NSU Art Museum LIVE Virtual Lecture | “Le Temps Revient”
Presented by Dr. Rocky Ruggiero
With additional commentary by Bonnie Clearwater
At the legendary joust that took place in Piazza Santa Croce in Florence in 1469, Lorenzo “il Magnifico” de’ Medici’s standard bore the motto “Joyful times will return.” After more than a half-century of political, social and economic turmoil, Lorenzo was inaugurating a golden age of rebirth for his city, which would resonate for nearly the rest of the century throughout all of Italy. Artists such as Botticelli, Verrocchio, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo would all develop under Medici largesse and would export Florentine genius to other Italian cities such as Rome, Milan and Venice. This webinar will explore the extraordinary period of cultural rebirth in Italy at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, which should remind us still today that Le Temps Revient.
The presentation is free for Museum members; $5/person non-members.
