EXCLUSIVE WEBINAR | “More Than a Leaning Tower: The Overlooked Tale of the Magnificent Cathedral Complex at Pisa”
Presented by Wayne Kalayjian
Most who journey to Pisa are on a singular mission to see its remarkable leaning tower. Yet, there is much more to experience and appreciate at the site, called the Campo dei Miracoli – the “Field of Miracles.” Join structural engineer and the author of Saving Michelangelo’s Dome, Wayne Kalayjian, for a fascinating discussion of how the tower, or campanile, of Pisa was built and its iconic ‘tilt’ came to be, along with the magnificent church known as the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta, the stunning Baptistry of St. John, and the monumental cemetery called the Camposanto. Together, this collection of buildings forms an architectural complex that is among the most impressive ever assembled and which we would celebrate today with or without the leaning silhouette of its (in)famous tower.
EXCLUSIVE WEBINAR | “Making a Masterpiece: Artistic Materials & Techniques in Renaissance Italy”
Presented by Dr. Sally J. Cornelison
This exclusive webinar will explore the materials and processes celebrated painters and sculptors such as Giotto, Fra Angelico, Donatello, and Michelangelo used to create their works. From the execution of preliminary drawings to the grinding of pigments, the application of gold leaf to a panel or a sculpture in bronze, or the strike of a hammer against a chisel to carve marble, it will delve into the practicalities and pitfalls of how some of the most iconic works of the Italian Renaissance were created.
EXCLUSIVE WEBINAR | “Priestly Painters”
Presented by Dr. Rocky Ruggiero
Some of history’s most celebrated painters were also ordained priests. Not surprisingly, their work is often distinguished for its spirituality, which was perhaps the direct result of their religious devotion. Join Dr. Rocky for this exclusive webinar as he examines the art and careers of several of the most famous priestly painters of the Italian Renaissance, including Lorenzo Monaco, Fra Angelico, Fra Lippo Lippi, Fra Carnevale and Fra Bartolomeo.
