WEBINAR RECORDING | “Mantua – City of Romeo, Rigoletto and Romano”
Presented by Dr. Rocky Ruggiero
The city of Mantua was a thriving artistic center during the Renaissance when it was ruled over by the Gonzaga family. Not only were the Gonzaga great lords, but also great patrons of the arts. Marquis Ludovico III Gonzaga brought the great Andrea Mantegna to Mantua to serve as his court artist and commissioned Leon Battista Alberti to build the city’s great Basilica Sant’Andrea. Ludovico’s great-grandson, Federico II, would instead bring the great Giulio Romano to Mantua to build and decorate his pleasure palace, known as the Palazzo Te. This webinar will examine the extraordinary art, architecture and history of this great northern Italian Renaissance city.
